Makalu Base Camp Trek: 24 Days Itinerary, Map, Cost For 2023

Mount Makalu is the third highest mountain peak located in the eastern Himalayan region. From this mountain, seven different valleys radiate, one of which is the Barun valley that treasures a large number of last remaining of the pristine forests and varieties of alpine meadows countrywide.

Furthermore, if you go to the bottom part of Arun valley located at only 435meters from the level of sea, you will find rise of Himalayas to snowcapped Makalu tip at about 8463meters within a distance of only 40kilometers. Within this big range of climates and varying altitudes, you will find the area of Makalu and Barun, as containing a few of the richest and diversified plans and animals belonging to the Nepal region. Besides this, you will find various communities named Sherpa, Bhotia farmers or Shingsawa and Raj communities in the lower area of the valley.

Makalu-Barun valley covers an area of 2330 square kilometers and constitutes a vital component of the ecosystem belonging to the great Mount Everest. It includes the Sagarmatha National Park across west and Qomolungma Nature Preserve towards the northern area.
