14 days Nepal Bhutan tour itinerary

The 14 days Nepal Bhutan tour is divided into two parts. First, you will explore Nepal, home to the tallest mountain in the world. After that, you will travel to Bhutan, the land of thunder dragons. We, Welcome Nepal Treks, are based in Kathmandu, Nepal. We will be directly involved during your time in Nepal.

While in Bhutan, you will travel with our trusted Bhutanese partner. In both countries, a local guide will accompany you, making the tour safe, comfortable, and hassle-free. Our guides are fluent in English, so there will be no communication gap. We will arrange the tour and help you get the Bhutan travel permits.

Note that our 14 days Nepal Bhutan tour package does not include a Nepal travel visa, so you have to get it by yourself.

The tour starts with your arrival at Kathmandu's international airport, where our team will welcome you in Nepali style. They will transfer you to the hotel in Thamel, the tourist hub in Kathmandu. The rest of your arrival day is free. You can explore around your hotel and enjoy a lovely dinner as you wish.

The next day, we'll meet early for the tour briefing. You will then visit famous tourist sites in Kathmandu with our guide. Some of the places are Monkey Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, and Bouddhanath Stupa. These are great places to learn about Nepal's history, culture, traditions, art, and architecture.

Around the monuments, you will explore the local markets, buy souvenirs, and taste Nepali dishes. Then you will travel to Chitwan. It will be around a half-day ride. Upon reaching Chitwan, spend a couple of hours resting and then get ready for a short village tour. You will visit a Tharu village where you can see their traditional clothes, music, and dance.

Tharu are one of the indigenous groups of Nepal. The following day, you will explore the wilderness of Chitwan National Park. Enjoy a jeep safari, bird watching, deep jungle walks, elephant and crocodile breeding center visits, canoeing, etc. See wildlife like the Bengal tiger, one-horn rhinos, elephants, wild boar, deer, peacock, etc.

From Chitwan, the tour continues to Pokhara, known as the city of lakes. It will be another scenic ride. In Pokhara, you will literally be in the arms of nature. Here, you will explore beautiful lakes, caves, and waterfalls. Visit Sarangkot for gorgeous sunrise and mountain views of Fishtail, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Lamjung Himal.

Likewise, explore Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, Bat Cave, International Mountain Museum, Peace Pagoda, etc. After exploring Pokhara, return to Kathmandu and get ready for Bhutan. On the day 8th of the tour, our team will drop you at the international airport, and you will fly across the Himalayas to reach Bhutan.

Land in Paro and drive to Thimphu for the night. The next five days you will spend exploring Thimphu, Gangtey, Punakha, and Paro. Learn about Bhutanese cultural heritage, practices, beliefs, art, architecture, and history. Visit numerous temples, palaces, dzongs, and museums. Similarly, try delicious Bhutanese dishes and explore bustling markets.

You will explore the National Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Temple, Drubthob Monastery, School of Arts and Crafts, National Library, Traditional Paper Factory, and Folk Heritage Museum in Thimphu. In Gangtey, you will visit Gangtey Monastery, Khewang Lhakhang, and Chorten Nyingpo.

In Punakha, you will explore Chimi Lhakhang Temple, Punakha Dzong, and Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. In Paro, visit tourist sites like Tiger's Nest Monastery, Paro Dzong, National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong), Kyichu Lhakhang, Drukgyel Dzong, etc.

Arrival at Kathmandu airport, pick up and transfers to hotel. Check in to the hotel with welcome drink. After a short rest at evening visit a tourist Market in Thamel. Overnight at 3-star hotel (Kathmandu Business Hotel or the address Kathmandu Hotel)

    After breakfast at hotel, starts Kathmandu sightseeing including; Kathmandu Durbar Square, the place of the Malla and then the Shah Kings of Nepal, visiting Kumari Temple, house of the virgin goddess, visiting Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), a stupa on the top of hill - from here you can overlook the scenery of Kathmandu, Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most important Hindu temples in Nepal. We keep going for walk to see the huge stupa of Buddha, also known as Boudhanath, the largest stupa in Nepal. Overnight at (Kathmandu Business Hotel or The address Kathmandu Hotel)

      After breakfast, proceeds to Royal Chitwan National Park (the heart of the jungle) located in the former royal Hunter land at late afternoon Visit Ethnic culture Tharu Village. Evening Tharu culture program and dinner. Overnight at 3-star hotel (Hotel Jungle Crown or Safari Adventure Lodge)

        After breakfast, proceeds to jungle activities, including Jeep Safari to see one horned Rhino and many more dangers and endangers animals and birds.             Get up early in the morning and drive to sarankot to see Himalaya view and sunrise view. Back to hotel have a breakfast, visit Tallest shiva temple, world peace pagoda, Bindabasini Temple, Davi’s fall, Gupteshwar Cave, Regional Museum, Seti River Gorge (the place to see white river). Overnight at 3-star hotel (Hotel City INN or Mount view Pokhara)

              After breakfast drive to Kathmandu (approx... 6 hrs. drive) on the way you will enjoy the Himalayas nature, in the evening provide the farewell dinner with Nepal cuisine and dancing. Overnight at (Kathmandu Business Hotel or the address Kathmandu Hotel)

                After breakfast, you will be dropped to Kathmandu Airport for flight to Bhutan. Arrive at Paro Airport and then drive to the capital city Thimphu. Altitude: 2320m/ 7656ft above sea level. (1 hour 30 minutes drive)

                The flight into the Himalayas reveals scenic and breathtaking views of Himalayan Mountains of the world. If weather permits you will be able to see Mt Everest (8848m, 29,198ft) and other Himalayan mountain ranges. After checking into the hotel later visit, your representative from the agency will greet you on arrival and drive you to the capital city, Thimphu. On the way to Thimphu visit, Tamchhog Lhakhang which is located on the opposite side of the river. This is a temple built by Thang Thong Gyalpo of Tibet, who was responsible for building numerous iron bridges throughout Bhutan. Kuenselcholing View Point: A place from where you can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley is from the Buddha point (Kuensel Phodrang). It is again a short drive from the town. You can pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley. Memorial Chorten: This particular chorten was constructed in 1974 as a memorial for the third King of the country, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who is widely regarded as the father of modern Bhutan. Tashichho Dzong: The names mean – Means Fortress of Glorious Religion. It was built in 1641 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. It houses the secretariat building, the throne room and the office of the king, and the central monk body. Later relax for the day and stroll around the city. Overnight in Thimphu

                  Morning takes a hike to Cheri Monastery (Includes Dodina and Jigme Dorji Wild life Sanctuary): Hike about 1hrs (to and from) leds to Cheri Goemba (Cheri Dorji Dhen). Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal built this monastery in 1620 and established the first monk body here. A chance to spot birds such as Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird, Yellow-browed Tit, Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, Long-billed Thrush, Ultramarine Flycatcher. Paper factory: The handmade paper making in Bhutan stemmed from the age old tradition originated in 8th century of Bhutanese history. The handmade paper constitutes as valuable National heritage of Bhutanese cultural identity and is preserved through all the ages. The Traditional paper is recognized and held high esteem both in home and outside world.

                  The weekend market: Held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the people crowd the stalls every day, dressed in full color and gathered to meet and to barter, much like the street markets in London! Bhutan Craft bazaar: The private stalls had a variety of high-end quality products from places across the country such as wood carved national symbols, bags and western wears with touch of traditional designs, wooden and clay utensils, Bangchung, Dhapa, key hanger of jewelry boxes, bookmarks and handmade packing papers (Deysho) in different patterns, antique items and etc. The stalls have a distinctly rich outlook with fine tones of elegance, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. The craft bazaar is also an exemplary of how bamboo can be used to construct houses in the country. Later you can stroll around the city. Overnight in Thimphu.

                    Altitude: 2800m/ 9240ft above sea level (5 hours drive)

                    Morning driving towards Gangtey, we come across a pass known as Dochula (3140m, 10362ft) from where a beautiful panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range can be seen, especially in clear winter days. The beauty of this place is further enhanced by the Druk Wangyal Chortens- 108 stupas built by the eldest Queen, Her Majesty AshiDorjiWangmoWangchuck.In the mountains east of Wangdue Phodrang lies the beautiful Phobjikha valley, on the slopes of which is situated the great monastery of Gangtey, established in the 17th century. The village of Phobjikha lies a few km. down from the monastery, on the valley floor. This quiet, remote valley is the winter home of black necked cranes, which migrate from the arid plains of Tibet in the north, to pass the winter months in a milder climate. Overnight in Gangtey.

                      Altitude: 2800m/ 9240ft above sea level (2 hours drive)

                      Morning visit, Gangtey Goemba: In the mountains east of Wangdue Phodrang lies the beautiful Phobjikha valley, on the slopes of which is situated the great monastery of Gangtey, established in the 17th century. The village of Phobjikha lies a few km. down from the monastery, on the valley floor. This quiet, remote valley is the winter home of black necked cranes, which migrate from the arid plains of Tibet in the north, to pass the winter months in a milder climate. Hike to Chimi Lhakhang(Temple of fertility): This Temple was built by lam Drukpa Kuenley (The Divine Madman) in 1499. It is about thirty minutes hike across fields from the road –Wooden phalluses are often found hanging in the four corners of the houses and also phalluses are painted on the walls of houses. It is the common belief that this helps in driving away evil spirits. (30 minutes hike to and fro, gentle steep, good foot path across the valleys and villages). Overnight in Punakha.

                        Altitude: 2280m/7524ft above sea level. (4 hours’ drive)

                        Morning Visit, Punakha Dzong (fortress): Built in 1637 by Zhabdrung which is remarkably located between the rivers of Mo (Female) Chu (river) and Pho (Male) Chu. Until the time of second king it served as a seat of the king. Later drive to Paro and later visit, Rimpung Dzong: The Bhutanese Dzongs are huge architectural structures constructed for a variety of functions throughout the country, from administrative buildings to monasteries and temples, yet they are carefully and thoughtfully designed and are strikingly beautiful. The Rimpung Dzong, known as the “fortress of the heap of jewels” in the picturesque setting of the Paro valley, is of course no exception, built in the time of the dynamic spiritual and political leader Zhabdrung in 1644. Once a year, as part of the Tsechu festival, one of the oldest Thongdol (gigantic scroll paintings) is ceremonially unfurled here.

                        Kichu Lhakhang (Monastery): It is one of the two most sacred and the oldest temples in Bhutan. It was built in 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Overnight in Paro

                         

                          Morning hike to Taktshang Monastery (Tiger’s nest): This is Bhutan’s most recognizable cultural icon perched 800m/2640ft up a seemingly sheer cliff. Although it was tragically and mysteriously consumed by fire in April 1998 it has now been restored to its former glory. It is believed that in the 8th century, the great tantric master Guru Rimopche/ Padmasambhava (2nd Buddha) flew on the back of a tigress to the site where the monastery now stands. (Five hours hike to and fro, some gentle and some steep hike, some stony foot path and some good ones) If you ride a horse upward it will cost extra US$25 per person.

                          Visit Farmhouse: Picturesque farm houses dot the valley amongst fields and hillsides. We welcome you to enjoy the hospitality of the Paro farmers. Thrill yourself as the farmers welcome you to their homes with genuine smiles. The two to three-storied Bhutanese farm houses are handsome in appearance, with colorfully decorated outer walls and lintels, and are traditionally built. A visit to a farm house gives an interesting glimpse into the lifestyle of a farming family. (If you take hot stone bath in the farm house it will cost extra US$25 per person.)Later stroll around the town and see how locals live. Overnight in Paro.
