Lhasa to Everest Base Camp Tour, 8 Days Trip from Nepal

Have you ever thought you could go to Everest Base Camp by driving? Though it is an impossible dream from the Nepal side, you can definitely drive to the base camp of the tallest mountain in the world on the Tibet side. Our Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour package is a perfect holiday program that takes you to Everest Base Camp and explores beautiful Tibetan cities like Lhasa, Shigatse, Gyantse, and Rongbuk.

Friendly reminder: Mount Everest has two base camps- South and North. South EBC is situated in Nepal, and multiple days of trekking are required to reach it. Meanwhile, North EBC is situated in Tibet and can be reached just a two-day drive from Lhasa.

In Tibet, the North Everest Base Camp is situated at 5,200 meters above sea level. During the Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour for 8 days, you will start the journey with a scenic flight from Kathmandu (Nepal) to Lhasa (Tibet). So, Lhasa will be your first destination on this tour.

You will spend three nights here, exploring different tourist sites and acclimatizing. Travelers should remember that Lhasa is located 3,650 meters above sea level, and traveling from Kathmandu means you will gain almost 1,700 meters at altitude.

This huge gain in elevation can lead to altitude sickness, so we recommend travelers get ample rest upon landing in Lhasa. Likewise, have warm soups, teas, and lots of water. If you feel sick or uneasy, inform your guide and get medicine.

From Lhasa, you will drive to Shigatse via Gyantse. It will be an hour-long scenic ride across the highlands of Tibet. You will see stunning views of the holy Brahmaputra Lake and Yamdrok Lake. On the way to Gyantse, you will cross the Kamba La Pass (4,794 m) and Kora La Pass (5,010 m).

Also, enjoy a striking view of Korala Glacier. In Gyantse, you will visit Kumbum Monastery and Pelkor Chode Monastery. The drive then continues to Shigatse. Your highway goes through the beautiful Nyangchu Valley, which offers lovely views of pastures with yaks and horses.

In Shigatse, you will explore the Tashilhunpo Monastery and Shigatse Dzong. Continue the tour from Shigatse to Rongbuk. It is the last settlement before Everest Base Camp on this tour. On the way, you will visit the Sakya Monastery.

One of the major highlights of this day will be the crossing of Gyatso La Pass (5,220 m), also known as Gyatchu La Pass. The views of the high-altitude desert dotted with glacial streams from the past are spectacular.

The following day, you will wake up early and go on an excursion to Everest Base Camp. EBC is located only 8 kilometers away from Rongbuk. It is a short ride to the base camp, where you will be surrounded by heavenly, rugged, glacial landscapes.

Explore the North Everest Base Camp and witness breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Changtse, Mt. Pumori, etc. Drive back to Lhasa via Shigatse and return to Kathmandu.
