HOLY MT KAILASH AND MANSAROVAR YATRA OVERLAND TOUR
The Kailash Mansarovar tour, also known as the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, is one of the most adventurous pilgrimage tours on Earth. The tour takes you to the Tibetan Autonomous Region, where Mount Kailash and the holy Lake Mansarovar are located.
Both the mountain and the lake hold great importance for Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. Every year, a huge number of pilgrims go to the Kailash Mansarovar yatra to get blessings. Not only that, but we have also seen many adventure enthusiasts visiting this destination.
We, Welcome Nepal Treks, have been organizing the Kailash Mansarovar tour for more than 10 years, and all of our trips have been a huge success. Whether you are a solo traveler or want to do the Kailash Mansarovar yatra with your family, we will be your trusted partner.
We work closely with the Tibetan government to facilitate our trips. The journey starts and ends in Kathmandu, so you have to be in the city at least one day before the departure date. From Kathmandu, we will drive to Kerung, the Tibetan city bordering Nepal.
Our Tibetan representatives will pick you up at the border and accompany you during the rest of the journey. Our Tibetan representatives are equally reliable and trustworthy partners. They will enrich your tour/yatra with ample information, comfort, and safety.
It is an overland Kailash Mansarovar tour. The tour involves three days of Kora (holy walk around Mount Kailash), and you will travel in a comfortable four-wheeler during the remaining time. During the Kora, you will spend nights in the lodge. Hotels will be your accommodation in the cities.
Which Mountains will You Get to See During the Kailash Mansarovar Tour?
During the tour, you will witness many Himalayan mountains. While traveling from Kathmandu to the Tibet border, ranges like Annapurna (8091 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), and Langtang (7,234 m) will come into your perspective.
Gradually, as the tour continues, you will see Shishapangma (8,027 m), Gurla Mandhata (7,694 m), Nandi Parvat, Ashtapad, etc, along with vast Tibetan plateaus and rugged Trans-Himalayan ranges.
Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake's Religious Significance
For Hindus, Mount Kailash is the home of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati (his wife). Visiting this place is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for the Hindus.
They believe that doing the Kora and taking a dip in the Mansarovar Lake will liberate them from their sins and bless them. Not only that, but circumambulating 108 times around the mountain will allow them to be liberated from life's birth and death cycle.
Likewise, for Buddhists, Mt. Kailash is associated with the cosmic axis in Buddhist cosmology. It is also the abode of their deity Chakrasamvara (Demchok). For Jains, Mt. Kailash is where their saint, Rishabhadeva, attained liberation (moksha).
Hundreds of pilgrims visit Kailash and Mansarovar Lake between May and October. It is the optimal time to visit this place because of the stable weather and mild climate.
The Kailash Kora/Parikrama
The Kailash Kora or Parikarma begins from the western edge of Darchen (4,700 meters). You will gradually ascend following rocky cliffs to Dira-Puk (4,900 m). The hike offers stunning views of waterfalls and hills.
Given the rugged terrain and high altitude, hiking with a heavy bag can be challenging for many travelers. You can hire a porter at a very reasonable cost. From Dirapuk, you will ascend to ZuthulPhuk (4,970 m), crossing the Dolma La pass (5,670 m) on the way.
This is the highest point anyone can touch on Mt. Kailash. It is also the highest point during the Kora. Devotees can do a small puja ritual and get blessings at the top of the pass.
Then, descend to ZuthulPhuk. Complete the last day of the Kora and drive from Saga. You will see Gaurikund during the Kora and explore Milarepa Cave.
